5 Easy Donations that Make a Difference

Everyone wants to make a difference in their community. This does not require you to become a missionary or rearrange your entire life. Sometimes it’s the small stuff that makes a big difference. Consider some of these simple donations that won’t really make a difference in your own life, but may change the life of another.

  1. Canned Foods — When it’s time for some spring cleaning or simply a cleaning out of cupboards and pantries, pull out canned foods that you won’t use or that you don’t need. Local food banks are always willing to take canned food donations.
  2. Old Car — Ready to get that old car out of your yard or garage? Perfect! Organizations such as Kars 4 Kids accept car donations. You get to clean up your yard or garage and get a tax write off in the process. In addition, organizations use these car donations to raise money for kids in need.
  3. Books — Whether it’s college textbooks or leisure reading, libraries, community centers and various other organizations accept book donations. Some organizations use these books to teach children and others to read. Others have the books on hand for leisure time or to learn.
  4. Kids Clothing — When your kids grow out of outfits, they no longer need them. Kids in need, however, do. Donate the clothing to local charities, women’s shelters and more.
  5. Women’s Suits — Abused women or young women trying to get back on their feet often need suits for job interviews. Find a local organization that accepts women’s suits and helps teach women the skills they need to interview and land a job.
